Three photographers on the last weekend of 212 Photography Istanbul: Martin Parr, Frank Horvat and Yann Arthus-Bertrand, and the light under the domes of Tophane.

For a few hours I stopped photographing Prague. What came back first, after some years away, was the simplest thing: light and shadow, silhouettes, and an old lesson about shooting with the eye, not the idea.

Photography is meditative. Diving is meditative. When the two overlap, something happens I don't yet have words for. Notes from a first attempt at underwater photography in Tekirova — the kit, the settings that worked, and what the light does down there.

An evening walk I didn't plan in the times I thought I knew Istanbul, and two photographs I'm still proud of. Plus a café where I once waited, with quiet optimism, for one of the great photographers of the twentieth century to walk through the door.
